CHA Day 2 ...

... I headed to CHA this morning with my Mom, Nancy, and friend and Krew volunteer Kathi. We were there about 20 minutes when the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate. Luckily, there was nothing truly wrong, so we were able to come back into the building about five minutes later. But it was still a big inconvenience for everyone.

As for the more fun side of CHA today, I visited the BasicGrey booth, where I saw fellow Creative Escape instructor, Kelly Goree conducting a make and take of her own design. I, of course, had to peruse the new lines from BG, since they are one of my personal favorite companies. The new additions are:

Lime Rickey

Wisteria

Marrakech

I would love to see more of these Blue Hills Studios magnetic punches available. I love the fact that you can punch anywhere in the middle of a piece of paper, allowing for really cool possibilities for both negative and positive images.

As we walked the aisles, I ran into Diva Craft Lounge hosts Danielle and Rayme. They were kind enough to autograph one of their new books "Designing with the Divas" for both my Mom and myself.

This shot also shows the page of the book my acrylic wall hanging project is on. I will have a few of these books available at the Orange County Scrapbook Expo in a few weeks.

One of the tools I was excited about was the new We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper. This tool retails for $25 and had two different corner sizes in one: 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch. Basically, this is both of the Zutter Round-it-Alls in one for half the price. I test-drove one myself and it cleanly cuts not only acrylic, chipboard and paper, but it also "chomped" right through my metal panels. Whoo-hoo! I cannot wait for this April release!

And, of course, the YUDU silk screening machine is a lot of fun. I got to experiment with it today, put a metallic heart on the front of a YUDU T-shirt and learned the basics to burning a screen and more. I cant wait to get the machine in the mail!

I also stopped by my friends, the Clear Scraps gals' booth. All I can say is "Wow!" They really come out with some fabulous new acrylic and chipboard goodies! For starters, there is a gorgeous acrylic sand castle album that's new. Plus, the adorable mini-albums that are 3 inches or smaller and come in the shapes of flowers, arrows, hearts, cupcakes and more.

Are you someone who wasn't lucky enough to go to CHA this week? How about a consolation prize: A mini CHA care package. I have two of them featuring Clear Scraps cupcake mini albums, an apron and foam de-stressing Slice from Making Memories and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (the exclusive Tea Green formula!).

Just comment below answering the following question:

What is your favorite technique to use with acrylic or metal?

Two random winners will be chosen Friday afternoon, so check back!

After helping out at your class in Sac I have to say I'm loving acrylic. I think my favorite technique is layering double sided papers on multiple pieces of acrylic so they look like frames and give more dimension to the design,

I wish I was lucky enough to go!!! Im so jealous! LOL
Working with acrylic is still fairly new for me, but the couple of albums that I have made, I have to say that I really liked using double sided patterned papers and rubons! I think it looks so pretty! Thanks so much for sharing your fun times!! I love reading about it and seeing the great photos! Enjoy yourself!

I am so jealous bout you guys being there in CHA to get hands on with new lines of products and tools and stuff! but maybe next year.. as for my favorite technique to use with acrylic, it would be glazing and glittering over them
for metal, that would be distressing or embossing..
thanks for sharing.. :)

You got some great pictures. I have a couple to e-mail you that I keep forgetting to send.

I see a few things from your post that I'd like to get when they come out. :)

Thanks for sharing the happenings at CHA.

Oops!! Forgot my favorite technique. I love what you showed us at CE...using ink around the edge and then adding the Stickles.

I live in Indiana.. Far far away from CHA *sigh*

Thanks for the pics, they are the next best thing to being there :)

My new favorite product is alcohol inks. I recently got some and I looove to color metal, acrylic, foil alphas, anything I can, LOL.

Oh, do I have to pick just one technique? I guess I would have to say using rub-ons and stamps on acrylic. Was that two?
Thanks for the chance to win!

My favorite is your 8x12 metal with paper on top, punched with two holes and tulle added for a quick and fun hanger. Add magnets with flowers on them and voila - instant memo board! This is a great kid's birthday project idea since your corners are rounded! We love love LOVE your acrylic and metal!!! ;)

Hey Jessica, loving your blog and pics from CHA. Since taking your classes at Gigi's retreat, I love using the Adirondack Paint Dabbers, especially the feathering trick you showed me! My grandson is getting a custumized acrylic wall clock in a couple of weeks for his birthday.

My favorite thing for acrylic is rubons.
THanks for the cool giveaway Jessica!

HOW FUN! Looks like you had a great time. Wish I could have gone!

Well since I love working with both I will say....

stamping with paint or Staz-on, I love that it totally gives the item a new look. And the second thing would be stikles, I don't do any projects without using it.

Good luck everyone.

Anonymous said...

Not really a technique, but a design. I like to mix and match all the page sizes. If the holes don't match up, I just add some decorative binding tape to the sides and repunch. Works for me!
Thanks, Jessica!

Thanks for sharing your CHAW experience with us!

I'm not sure if it's a technique but I like to use my crop 'o dile on the acrylic, it goes through it like butter and make holes with it. Sometimes I put through a ribbon or an eyelet.

I haven't played with metal yet but I love the message board photos you posted.

I am glad you were sold out of the Zutter Round It All at the Expo last year because now you are making me want the WRMKs one!

Boy, sure looks like you are having a great time! As for acrylic...I like to cut alphas from acrylic (using Sizzix dies) for use as titles for my layouts. Then cover them with glossy accents...makes for a nice title.

Well I like the acrylic for it's sturdiness. Easy to add paper and emboss. But metal now there ya go. I like getting the thinner metal and running it thru my cuttlebug. But the acrylic, well you can add the paper, leaving some side open, stamp and heat emboss oh WOW, it has a nice "pop" to it.

P.S. Thanks for sharing the Chomper - that is one purchase I'll be making!

I didn't make it this time. Sad sad to miss so many of my friends.

I love to run my metal thorugh my Big Kick and embossing plates from Fiskars. It leaves a wonderful design. With clear acylic I like to layout with stamps. I start on the right and stamp on one page and then go to the second page and stamp the second one slighty to the right and I keep building. This is fun with the tag albums and old, classic stamps.

thanks

Didn't make it to CHA, but I'm glad there are so many people blogging about it so the rest of us can check it out from a distance at least. I really dig that Lime Rickey line from B.G.

With Acrylic, I really like making both sides of the project mirror images so you can flip it over and the designs line up. I hope that made some sort of sense. :) With metal, I've been playing with alcohol inks and seeing what I can come up with.

Just noticed you're from P'Cola! I grew up in FWB, running away to Pensacola on weekends to mostly just hang around in a somewhat different atmosphere. :) Lots of picnics on the courthouse steps!

Haven't done so much metal but as for acrylic..I love printed papers and rub ons..I want to try the alchohol ink..gotta get some first. I didn't get to go...I am in Kansas. Wish they would come here. Thanks for this awesome opprotunity to get in on some of the fun!

I so wish I was able to go to CHA :) It looked like alot of fun and I can not wait until I can buy some of the neat stuff coming out.

I really like to paint my acrylic, it always lets me choose my color for a certain project and even mixing paints to make a special color, even better :)

See you soon in class, wouldn't miss it for the world :)
